ever seen the movie "Wall street"? If so, remember the scene where Gordon Gekko says, "Greed is good. Greed works." ??
i used to think that way. most of my boyfriends have been corporate types, so they fostered that same kind of mentality in me. and then i took a step back and thought about it. greed gets me into trouble because i want to "keep up" with my suburbia neighbors. all it does it make me dissatisfied about the things i don't have as opposed to appreciating the things i *Do* have.
so for me, greed doesn't work. at least, i think that was the point i had in mind...

As you know I don't believe in the concept of sin. I do know that as a society, Americans, and o.k. other cultures, are conditioned to believe that in order to attain "status" that you have to acquire as much garbage as possible. We have to compete with our neighbors, have big houses and big huge polluting devices like SUV's. Men have to have little supermodel anorexics ont heir arms and women need the men with the most $$$. What utter bullshit.
I never have any money. Broke as a mofo. I have .99 in my savings account. Why? Well cause if I die tomorrow I certainly can't take all that money with me. SO I spend it on things I enjoy. Food, music, movies. Doesn't matter.
O.k. so what about taking care of the kids. Well I have a nice life insurance policy so if I die, Nate will be taken care of for a little while. So, that excuse doesn't work.
There are things we need in the this world. Food, clothing, shelter. We don't need game cubes and xbox's and certainly do not need huge SUV's clogging up the streets.

WELL! It's about time! My goodness gracious.
Narnia is a GREAT example of the vice of greed. Although one can say that its not only Greed itself that he emphasizes. He also teaches the transformation that happens when one becomes greedy. In that sense, incorporating the vice itself in your own head, and in your very soul.
"He had turned into a dragon while he was asleep. Sleeping on a dragon's hoard with greedy thoughts in his heart, he had become a dragon himself" (75).
I for one have been greedy many times, but you know what Tricia? I NEVER justify it as greed because I've always made sure that there is an exchange for that certain luxury that i'm asking for. Meaning to say, I would give something in return in exchange for my greed. I know it seems TOO virtuous, that I may be starting to look like a goody-good. But in truth of my experiences, once greed has freed us, it's really hard to get back.
Besides, to ask more is to give more in the end. I think. That ole' threefold law.

Welcome back Trish! Wow at that story. Greed is one sin that I managed to get under control a long time ogo. Maybe it's because when I lost everything I was truly humbled. Money isn't the root of all evil, greed is! Be Blessed!

Goody the sins are back. That was a good point you raised about your friend having an emotional void and that fuels her greed. I also think mass production is the root of all greed... I didn't really think I needed an XBox until they dropped the price. They're practically giving them away now. Who am I to pass on such a bargain?
