Who in their right mind would find this an appropriate display? I mean, just as a matter of human decency, of respect for people who suffered and died in just that way. Not to mention that fact that they are perpetuating stereotypes and untruths and glorifying death and suffering in their hapless attempt at “good fun.” Give me a break. This is just about as disgusting as people who put lawn jockeys out in their yard just to be cute and without knowing or caring about any of the deeper meaning behind them.

I don’t even think this is necessarily a rant about prejudice against Wiccans or Witches. It’s more about what consitutes respect for human beings anymore. I mean, are some people so immune to the offensiveness of their own actions that they truly don’t get it anymore? Does the suffering and death of others garner so little care or compassion? No matter if someone doesn’t agree about the reason that they died, or even if their death may have been justified in that strange way that some people justify death. Even the basest and lowest of creatures deserves compassion. No one should have their death paraded around as some sort of mockery.
Don’t even ask me where this all came from. I guess I am just unable to desensitize myself to society’s in-your-face-all-the-time-on-prime-time approach to all things violent. Is that wrong?

Can you call and complain if you don’t live in FL?

As far as I know, anyone can call and make a complaint, no matter where they live. I’m not in Florida either, this was brought to my attention through an email list.

I find the display disgusting and rude, myself. I can’t believe that someone would openly display a “witch” this way. You know, if it were racially motivated, being an african american hanging there…the media and public would be all over that like glue. But it is just a witch.
Hmmm…I am offended.

Someone posted a link to this heinous display on a pagan yahoo group I co-own. Its really making its rounds in the pagan community.

I can’t say I am surprised.

What a HORRIBLE display. I can’t believe anyone would even think of putting it up let alone actually doing it. WTF were they thinking?
